Final looks on the runway at the Cornell Fashion Collective 31st annual show, above.
The second-level designers produced a cohesive collection inspired by the French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle. Each designer contributed two looks.
Peonies by Susan Niezelski inspired the initial dress, sketched in 2013. The looks for this show were derived from that image.
LOOK 1
Paper was draped to create the pattern for the petal bodice.
The skirt was patterned using slopers. Here, the sample skirt is made with muslin fabric.
LOOK 2
Paper was draped to create the pattern for the petal bodice.
The skirt was made of over 100 yards of black tulle, gathered and layered.

Look 2 was photographed and entered into the International Textiles and Apparel Association 2015 design competition.
The final petals were created from hand-painted neoprene. Boning was sewn onto the back of the petals for structure. Light-weight organza was applied to the painted surfaces to add texture and sheen.
